Health Drink Of Finger Millet

Now a days, people are obsessed with health drinks shown in advertisements. But as far as their use is concerned, they are good at flavour and easy to prepare. But when we consider nutritional values of these drinks, they are of no comparison with traditional health drinks. Traditional health drinks are far better than the so called health drinks nutritionally and economically. If we add the ingredients like elachi, they taste good and the flavour will be mouth watering. I am introducing one of such health drinks i.e., Raagi Malt(in Telugu) or the drink of Finger Millet or Red Millet.

Ingredients for the Raagi malt:

1.Finger Millets           -  500grams
2.Almonds(optional)    -  50 grams
3.Pista(optional)          -  50 grams
4.Elachi(optional)        -   10 grams

Method :
1. Clean the Millets.
2.wash them thrice so that the dust particles can come out.
3. Soak the Millets for six hours and before going to sleep drain the Millets in a cloth so that the water is completely drained from Millets.
4. Twist the cloth tightly with the Millets inside.
5. Put a heavy stone or an object on the cloth and take care that the cloth will not be loosened.
6. After 12 hours open the cloth carefully and you will observe the sprouts of Millets.
7. Dry them in shade.
8. After the moisture is gone from the sprouts fry them in a pan till you sense a good smell.
9. Then you powder them in a flour mill or in your mixer.
10. If you want to add the powder to milk you can grind the optionals given above and mix into the flour.
11. If it is with buttermilk, optionals are not required.
12. Take a table spoon of flour, mix it with50 ml milk or water as you required.
13. Heat the mixture, stir continuously till it forms a paste.
14. Now if it is with milk you can add sugar to taste and add some more milk to get the required quantity.
15. If it is with buttermilk add the mixture to the required quantity of buttermilk and salt to taste.

Note:
Researches show that the red Millets contain more calcium than milk.
